During his campaign, President Obama made the following statement to a San Francisco Chronicle reporter: “So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.”

For those of us who value coal – the jobs and low-cost energy it provides – our worst nightmare is upon us. Obama is making good on his campaign promise to destroy the coal industry and is pressuring Democrats in Congress to pass an National Energy Tax in the form of cap-and-trade legislation. Senators Webb and Warner can vote against this legislation but will face pressure from national leaders to push through this radical agenda.  Please join our petition and tell our Senators to vote for Virginia's best interests and say "NO" on Cap-and-Trade.

To: Senators Webb & Warner:

We strongly urge you to oppose Barack Obama’s new energy policies and stand up for your constituents by refusing to wage war on the coal industry. Congressional leaders hope to pass “cap-and-trade” legislation which will lead to higher energy prices for consumers. In light of the uncertain economy, it is not the time to ask citizens to give even more of their money to the government, or even lose their jobs as coal is taxed to death. Please consider us, even if the president is dedicated to pursuing this harmful course of action.

Sincerely,
